Quality Assurance Officer

This role reports into the Quality Manager.

We are BRC certified so there is a strong emphasis on Quality, HACCP, and Good Manufacturing Practice.  The ideal candidate will have relevant FMCG experience, be organised, self – motivated, ambitious, a good communicator with problem solving abilities.  The candidate will also be flexible and adaptable to meet the company’s needs. A team player who is also able to work on their own initiative, with good time management skills. An awareness of cultural diversity is also required.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure all finished products meet specifications and conduct necessary tests.
  • Maintain daily records/traces.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards according to BRC and retailers’ standards.
  • Work independently, planning and organizing daily tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Perform internal audits including GMP, fabrication, hygiene, and G&P audits.
  • Identify and resolve food safety issues on the production floor.
  • Assist during audits as needed.
  • Conduct CCP checks.
  • Uphold product quality and safety.
  • Inspect incoming produce, ingredients, and packaging.
  • Ensure proper implementation of the Quality Management System across the business.
  • Monitor production operators’ paperwork for correct and timely documentation of checks.
  • Maintain communication with production, maintenance, and goods-in personnel to uphold quality standards.
  • Complete and file all quality records accurately.
  • Log, report, and investigate non-conformances and rejections.
  • Sample products and environment for microbiological and chemical analysis.
  • Perform quality checks on dispatched goods.
  • Conduct organoleptic assessments on finished products.
  • Participate in site visits and audits.

Qualifications/Experience/ Skills

  • A minimum of a Level 7 qualification (ordinary level degree) in food science or an equivalent field.
  • Previous experience of working in a Quality Assurance role in the food industry and HACCP knowledge.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current food regulation and legislation.
  • Excellent administration and IT skills, and high attention to detail.
  • Educated to a degree level in food science or related discipline is desirable.
  • Experience gained within Fresh Produce would be highly advantageous.
  • Power Point and Excel proficiency

*Training to be provided on:

  • Food standards auditing
  • HACCP Level 3 as a minimum
  • Other courses relevant to the role
